Shearing: In this process
machines with fast spinning knives on rollers are responsible
for reducing the length of the fibre pile. The article
is pulled over a large cylindrical roller with a series
of cutting gears which protrude from the cylinder at a
set height. The aim of this process is to get a continuous
uniform surface without fluff. |

Calendering: In
this process the article is passed between 2 rollers, under
high pressure. One of the rollers is normally
made out of hard chrome metal and heated up to 250°C
and the other is an unheated soft roller. The aim
of calendering is to compress the article for controlled
air permeability and the desired surface effect. |
